Extra-slim "Extra" TV show host Maria Menounos doesn't look as though she ever had fat loss problem. However she's revealing that they lost 40 pounds by combining a walking regime with a sugar-free, low carb diet, reported Life & Style magazine on Friday.

Maria admits that she tried lots of dietary fads. Then she decided to develop her very own approach to weight reduction, which she details in her new book "The EveryGirl's Guide to Weight loss: The way i Lost 40 lbs and Kept It Off-And The best way to Too."

The food element of her slimming program includes the basics of Mediterranean-style eating using the precepts of low-carb weight loss. Now Maria keeps from the weight by limiting herself to one "bad" carbohydrate a day.

To keep fit, Maria walks no less than 10,000 steps a day. She utilizes a pedometer to ensure that she meets her goal. Maria's tip: Exercising throughout the day by moving keeps your metabolism functioning at its peak.

"Ninety-five percent of the time I recieve that, Five percent of times I don't, and often I even exceed it wildly. I feel should you keep your steps you can keep your weight," said Maria within an interview with Shape magazine.

Maria estimates that 75 percent of her weight loss program is what she calls "clean eating." She doesn't approve of drinking diet sodas or using energy drinks.

While her new book focuses on weight reduction, Maria previously authored an all-in-one fashion/romance/fitness book "The EveryGirl's Help guide to Life." She notes that they decided to write her follow-up because she wanted to share the many diet secrets she's gotten from both superstars and health experts she's interviewed.

And for those who feel that you can't really stay with a weight loss plan, Maria offers encouragement: "Strive to follow along with the 75/25 plan. Over time, you'll have a cleaner diet overall."

Agreeing with her theory that moderation is most effective is Keri Gans, MS, RDN, CDN, and author of "The Small Change Diet: 10 Steps to some Thinner, Healthier You." In an exclusive interview, Keri told me that they believes in eating clean instead of excluding food groups.

"In order for long-term weight reduction a diet cannot be restrictive," she said. ""I am keen on including lean protein, lots of veggies and healthy fat for weight loss, but am equally keen on fruit, dairy and 100% whole grains."

Maria emphasizes cutting back portions instead of cutting out your favorite foods. Keri concurs, saying "Bottom line is learning portion control and adapting a realistic lifestyle."

Regardless of reason for his hasty retreat, the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star continues to be spending so much time to reduce those unwanted weight.

Inside a recent interview with People, Gunnar explained that, despite all the nasty criticism on Twitter, Rob has been spending so much time to adopt a healthier lifestyle. "We're doing intervals with strength movements: squats, the sled, swings and push presses. It comes down to getting his heartbeat up and keeping up."

Although Rob's goal would be to lose a lot of weight, Gunnar is not eager to track his progress having a scale. "I'm not big on measurements. Until a person looks in the mirror and it is happy with themselves, you haven't reached your workout goals."

Gunnar adds that, in spite of stereotypes suggesting that it's easier for celebrities to shed weight, access to an individual trainer doesn't necessarily turn the procedure into a cake walk. Between his sock line and continued family drama, Rob is super busy and therefore, not necessarily able to make it to the gym. Still, Gunnar thinks that, with effort, the truth star can definitely acquire a slimmer physique.

Wearing a long-sleeved black shirt Wednesday, Ravens outside linebacker Courtney Upshaw left the practice field covered in sweat.

Upshaw wore the shirt using the intentions of melting off some pounds under the hot sun.
Although Upshaw isn't nearly as heavy as last spring as he tipped the scales at 295 pounds and prompted coach John Harbaugh to question his eating routine, the strong-side outside linebacker is noticeably bigger than he was during the 2013 regular season. Upshaw acknowledged that he still must lose more weight to get in optimal shape.

"I'm feeling good, I'm working," said Upshaw, who ultimately dropped roughly 20 pounds last year before the start of the season. "The weight ain't where it needs to be, where I would like so that it is. It's a grind."
"That's the reason why you might see me in long sleeves and become like, 'Courtney, it's hot out here. Why are you in long sleeves?' I'm working, man, the cardio, getting it in. It is a whole new mindset. I'm doing the best things."
On the roster at 6-foot-2, 272 pounds, Upshaw didn't disclose his current weight. The 2012 second-round draft pick out of Alabama plays the game with power and is adept at grappling with offensive linemen to gain leverage and hang the edge like a run-stopper.
Upshaw started twelve games last season and recorded 29 tackles, 1.5 sacks and 2 pass deflections as Elvis Dumervil operated primarily as a pass rusher coupled with 9.5 sacks.
Harbaugh identified progress in Upshaw, especially compared to this past year when he was can not move about the practice field. This year, Upshaw's mobility appears normal.
"He looks like he's in really good shape," Harbaugh said of Upshaw. "We'll start monitoring the weight a bit more closely. He's within the ballpark. It's not like he's out of shape weight-wise. He's close. No problem during practice, he looks good."
Unlike a year ago when personal issues had him spending a lot of time from the team back in Alabama, Upshaw has been a regular at the Ravens' offseason training course this spring.
A few of Upshaw's primary goals will be to upgrade his pass coverage and become much more of a pass-rushing threat. Through two NFL seasons, Upshaw has recorded 84 tackles, three sacks, four pass deflections and 2 fumble recoveries.
"I feel good, man," Upshaw said. "I'm just honestly in a different level with my mindset going into the growing season. I'm attempting to do things differently than I used to. I was capable of being here more than my second year here and not are available in an excessive amount of overweight.
"It's going to be a grind because I can gain weight faster than I lose it. I was speaking with Bob [Rogucki], the strength coach and telling him how different Personally i think drained there, especially on special teams. I will venture out there and feel great."

Wearable technology steps up its invasion from the body with 'smart clothing' -- OMsignal's new type of T-shirts that boasts sensors woven into the fabric is only the beginning.

The thought of a watch or wristband with the capacity to track fitness enthusiasts' cardio and respiratory rates is certainly not new; however, recent advances have put tech in the textile. Enter the 'smart clothing' revolution. It is the latest craze among young technology the likes of OMsignal, whose new line of Biometric Smartwear T-shirts boasts sensors woven directly into the fabric.

The T-shirts are not only able to process the typical vital-sign data during a workout; they also connect the user to the web via proxy. The user's exercise statistics are told through the sensors to a 'tracking module' -- a small black box clipped onto the shirt that transmits a constant stream of updates to the shirt wearer's smartphone via Bluetooth.

Company co-founder Stephane Marceau says the new generation of fitness enthusiasts is information-hungry. "The first cars were completely blind. Then you definitely had a gas gauge. A speedometer. Now you can't make a car without these things," he explained. "Smart clothing is starting to perform the same thing for the body."

OMsignal's T-shirts cost US$80 (RM260) and also the necessary module costs US$120 (RM390). The organization happens to be accepting pre-orders to be shipped this summer. Despite the expense, the fabric also claims to be moisture-wicking and anti-microbial -- and perhaps most importantly, it's machine washable (bear in mind to unclip the sensor box).

Meant for a good fit, the merchandise enhances oxygen distribution towards the muscles and increases blood flow, according to the company, which also said the shirt has additional slimming and posture support benefits but didn't expand on how it works.

OMsignal belongs to a growing group of innovative companies, which include laboratories like Cityzen Sciences based in Lyon, France. Development of a smart bra with technology much like OMsignal's T-shirts is underway at San Francisco-based Sensilk.

Computerised clothing may soon be on the leading lines, because the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency looks to build up training and battle tools for soldiers. -- AFP/RelaxNews
